aloha! i'm in hawaii, enjoying the sun, surf and sand of the islands. so no posting for a while because i'm snorkeling with the turtles (literally swam with three of them the other evening), painting my grandma's house, and exploring the volcanos.

naturally with all the paint buckets lying around i would, of course, trip while talking on my cell phone, fall and knock one off a table splashing me with a half gallon of white paint. you really haven't lived until you've watched (in horror) a glob of white paint arc through the air heading straight towards you as you lay prone on your back with the wind knocked out of you. i got up sputtering, spitting out paint from my mouth and trying to wipe it from my eyes while feeling around in the spreading puddle for my cell phone. luckily i had flung the phone across the room during my fall so it was safe. not so my jeans or my shirt. i was soaked in the white sticky stuff.

yep, i impressed even myself with my clumsiness. and frankly, i'm almost proud i can now say i know exactly what it feels like to be doused with a large quantity of paint.

ps: due to the brilliance of my dad who bought a water-based paint, both my clothes and i made a complete recovery. um, but i did just notice i've still got some white paint on the back of my legs i still need to scrub.

i'm finally in california! it was a slow three-day drive due to enormous amounts of stuff pile on, in, and towed-behind a two-car caravan (why do i need all this stuff?) but i was able to unload quickly due to the help of a bunch of teenaged boys. we discussed all the important things, weight lifting, technology, cars and football while we unloaded. or should i say, they unloaded, i supervised (gentle with that box!).
petey the kitty did pretty well on the road. he mostly slept, cowered and hid from big rig trucks, and tried to transcend time and space. the third night in a motel 6 he spent burrowed under the bed covers. he's recovered well and even though we're surrounded by boxes he's been exploring, smelling and taking in the new views.
predictably, my new space requires paint, new carpet and wall paper but i'm not dealing with it until the weekend comes and i get too claustrophobic among the boxes. and then i'll start the job hunt.
