so, how cool is it to live in LA? very cool when the weather is nice and you can see a free action-packed performance of dance, comedy, drama and poetry...all for free in my own neighborhood. i caught the art talk performance this weekend...heard some bulgarian gypsy folk songs, saw some def poets (spoken word), watched a dance celebration of the music of james brown and enjoyed a snippet of the woman who played nellie olsen on little house and the prarie TV show... list of things to do: check out the enviro-friendly mani-pedi at recess um, finish the darn wedding guest list continue actually understanding my college algebra class 3/26/2008 04:30:00 PMi love the clover press brewed coffee of cafe intelligentsia in silverlake. now i want to try the siphon-brewed coffee of cafe balcony.3/12/2008 11:29:00 AMthis weekend was hilarious. i should be in my own movie. it started out with a frustrating attempt to make potato candy with potatoes that wouldn't cooperate and so we ditched the plan last minute and stopped by a grocery bakery on the way to a st. patrick's dinner with some friends from church. i immediately spotted a lovely dinner cake, a white cake with buttercream frosting dusted with coconut, in the bakery case but was informed that since the bakery was closed a deli counter worker would be with me "in a moment." unfortunatly, she chose that second to start a complicated deli sandwhich order so i had to grab something else that was handy. it was good, a $5 chocolate cake, but not as good as that $15 cocount cake, i imagine.
i worked a shift at south lake peet's on saturday morning, saw a minor TV and radio personality, dr. drew (from loveline) chatting with my (former) general doctor, napped and watched a bit of the docu-drama the talent given us and then headed out to the LA opera to watch two lovely pieces, the broken jug and the dwarf.
at church the next morning i cracked up as choir member ursala kept getting whacked in the head with the banner tassels during the choir procession (an unfortunate combination of being short and last in line with a newbie acolyte). as i was chewing the communion wafter i spotted a cockroach in a death thrall at the alter and i had to fight the urdge to spit out the bread and raise my hand while saying "check please!" i've never prayed so hard for actual transformation in my life! ah, if only each church service could be that amusing...
lunch at noodle world followed where i tried out the hong-kong pan fried noodle dish with beef and sliced chinese broccoli. delish! i headed home to nap with my cat and compelete my math homework. yup, my party days might be over...3/10/2008 10:59:00 AMrecent urban adventures included snacks/drinks at bahooka in temple city...i really loved the kitsh atmosphere and killer drinks!
also, the boy and i finally visited big sugar bakeshop in studio city and oh how much do i love thee donut muffin!?
we also tried the best hard tacos ever, at tito's and tested the unusual ice cream flavors of Scoops. Brown bread ice cream anyone? Yum!
someday, i will own a bike and will participate in these events.3/04/2008 12:18:00 PM
