the boy and i took the parents out for lunch on sunday where we dined on sea worms, crickets, scorpions and ants. seriously. we ate at typhoon at the (private) santa monica airport which features pan-asian cuisine with a section devoted to insects. we all decided the fried crickets were very similar to steak fries and the ants added a vinegar-like taste to the stack of fried potato strips they were sprinkled on. i didn't dwell too much on the scorpions and instead focused on the cheesey bread they were served on. also, i don't think i'll order the sea worms again. very briney and whatever spice they had on the lettuce cups was too hot for me. but i'll eat crickets and ants any day, yum! here's my cute pah-rhumba kitty enthusiastically enjoying her new organic catnip fortune cookie by jake & micah as purchased at the XL holiday felt club event today. the night before, we relaxed with some good company 'n drinks at los angeles' own original tiki bar, the tiki ti. excellent coconut, fresh pineapple and lots of drink garnishes and extremely friendly regulars in hawaiian shirts. afterwards, we staggered up the street to the vista theater to enjoy the new bond film. it's a restored gem of a theater. speaking of gems, i was thrilled to witness the glittery funk that is leslie hall who performed a short set at the felt club event. that lady cracks me up! after exploring the wonders of the hand-crafted goodness the boy, a friend and i tanked up on our first korean fried chicken experience at koychon chicken and then topped it off with a clover-brewed coffee and cheesecake at haus dessert boutique across the street. the fried chicken wings were slightly seasoned and very tasty/addicting. we will be eating more KFC (that's korean fried chicken, yo) in the future. and i think that i've fallen in love with haus. it's a classy coffee house with savory snacks and lovely desserts. just a little pricey so we'll keep it to a fling-status. our original plans of a private party event at magic mountain was canceled due to a local fire closing the nearby freeways. we had the burning smell in the air and california snow on our car (ash) when we came out from the craft fair. ah, yes, i love so-cal's winters. 80 degrees in november. huh. |
